Day 1. Arrival: Transfer from La Paz Airport to our hotel.

Day 2.
City Tour: We will take this day to recover from our flight with a tour of museums and historic sites in downtown La Paz, with a tour of the orphanage in the afternoon.  This will be our first acclimatization day.

Day 3.
Tiwanaku: Visit to the archeological site of Tiwanaku.  This will be our second acclimatization day.

Day 4.
Copacabana:  We will travel from La Paz to Copacabana (3,810 meters, 12500 ft) and stop at some sites of interest along the way.

Day 5.
Tumi: This day we will travel to Sampaya, City of Rock, with an afternoon walk to Yampupata.  Afterwards we will go to Yumani at 4,000 meters (13123 ft).

Day 6.
Island of the Sun: We will walk on the “Island of the Sun,” from Yumani to Holy Rock and Challapamba, with a return to Copacabana in the evening.

Day 7.
Base Camp Condoriri: From Copacabana, we will travel to the base camp of Condoriri (4,500 meters, 4764 ft).

Day 8.
Mirador: Acclimatization hike towards the summit (5,250 meters, 17224 ft).

Day 9.
Pico Austria:  Second acclimatization hike towards the summit (5,300 meters, 17388 ft).

Day 10.
Glacier School: This day we will have a course on the use of crampons and ice axe for the upcoming glaciers.

Day 11.
Pequeño  Alpamayo: We will attempt to gain the summit of the Small Alpamayo at (5,420 meters, 17782 ft), and return to La Paz.

Day 12.
Day of Rest in La Paz.

Day 13.
Base Camp: From La Paz, we will go to the first refuge.

Day 14.
High Camp: We will move to the high camp.

Day 15.
Summit Huaya Potosi: We will attempt to gain the summit of the glacier Huayna Potosi at 6,100meters (20013 ft).  We will return to La Paz in the evening.

Day 16.
End of Tour.  Transfer from the hotel to the La Paz Airport.

The trip fee includes:

  • All lodging accommodations during the trip
  • Entrance fees to National Parks and Tourist sites
  • Guides
  • All group transportation
  • All meals while on climbs and at mountain refuges
  • All transportation to and from airport
  • Necessary glacier equipment such as boots, crampons, ice axe, ropes, headlamps, and helmets

The trip does not include:

  • Flight to Quito
  • Travel Insurance
  • Personal equipment such as sleeping bags, jackets, gloves, sunglasses, etc.
  • Personal expenses such as gifts, telephone calls, alcoholic drinks, laundry, etc.
  • Meals in Quito, Otavalo, or outside mountain refuges
  • Tips for guides
  • Any visa requirements for Ecuador
  • Charges incurred as a result of flight/ airport delays, or circumstances beyond the control of Heart of the Andes or our Ecuador partner organization
